  1. 1

    Mt. Haruna and Lake Haruna

    📍 Takasaki, Gunma

A caldera lake on top of Mt. Haruna, which the Anime Tourism Association introduces as the model for Mt. Akina in the story. The view takes in Haruna-Fuji and the lake.

⚠️ The mountain roads are full of curves. Keep to the speed limit and avoid stopping or parking on the shoulder.

  2. 2

    Mt. Akagi and Lake Onuma

    📍 Maebashi, Gunma

Lake Onuma lies on top of Mt. Akagi, one of the three famous mountains of Gunma. The Anime Tourism Association lists Mt. Akagi as one of the settings of the story.

⚠️ Roads can be icy in winter. Use equipment suited to the season and drive safely.

  3. 3

    Usui Pass (Megane Bridge)

    📍 Sakamoto, Matsuida-machi, Annaka, Gunma

A pass on the border between Gunma and Nagano that the Anime Tourism Association lists as one of the settings of the story. Along the old pass road stands the Megane Bridge, a brick arch bridge designated an Important Cultural Property.

⚠️ Many pedestrians use the old road. Park in the parking lot, and do not step into the roadway to take photos around the bridge.

Etiquette

Pilgrimage etiquette

  • ✓The mountain passes are ordinary local roads. Never drive dangerously or make excessive noise in imitation of the story.
  • ✓Do not stop your car on the road or shoulder to take photos. Use the parking lots.
  • ✓Take your trash home and respect the natural environment.
Tips

Tips

  • •The three mountains and pass are far apart, so getting around by car is the norm. Planning for one or two places per day keeps things relaxed.
  • •Mt. Haruna pairs well with Ikaho Onsen, and Usui Pass with the Yokokawa and Karuizawa area.
