Places introduced by local governments, tourism associations or the work’s official channels.

  1. 1

    Hakodate Magistrate's Office

    📍 Goryokaku-cho, Hakodate, Hokkaido

A late-Edo-period magistrate's office reconstructed inside Goryokaku. The Anime Tourism Association's page lists it as the place to find Hakodate's official 88 Anime Spots plaque and goshuin (commemorative stamp).

⚠️ The goshuin is said to be located in the paid admission area of the building.

  2. 2

    Tsuruga Castle (Aizuwakamatsu Castle)

    📍 Otemachi, Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima

The castle is the symbol of Aizuwakamatsu and is featured as a highlight on the Anime Tourism Association's page for the city. It is an ideal starting point for exploring Aizuwakamatsu, one of the settings of the story.

  3. 3

    Hino-juku Honjin

    📍 Hino-honmachi, Hino, Tokyo

The only surviving honjin (official inn for travelling lords) building on a highway in Tokyo, and the former home of Sato Hikogoro, Hijikata Toshizo's brother-in-law. The Anime Tourism Association introduces it as a highlight of Hino, depicted in the story as the place where Hijikata, Kondo and Okita met and grew up.

⚠️ This is a historic building. Follow the staff's guidance and take care not to damage anything.

  4. 4

Hino-juku Koryukan (Hino City Tourist Information Center)

    📍 Hino-honmachi, Hino, Tokyo

Hino's tourist information center. Tokyo's official tourism website notes that Hino promotes the city through a collaboration with the Hakuoki series. It is a handy place to gather information about Shinsengumi-related sites.

  5. 5

Yagi Residence (Former Shinsengumi Mibu Headquarters)

    📍 Mibu, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto

The Yagi family home in Mibu, which the Shinsengumi used as their first headquarters. The Anime Tourism Association notes that the story also depicts it as the place where the heroine spends her days with the members.

⚠️ The area around it is residential. Stay within the areas open to visitors, and avoid lingering in the street or speaking loudly.

  6. 6

    Mibu-dera Temple

    📍 Mibu, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto

A temple once used as the Shinsengumi's training ground. The Mibuzuka mound in its grounds holds a bust of Kondo Isami and graves of Shinsengumi members. It is also listed as a highlight on the Anime Tourism Association's page for Kyoto.

⚠️ These are temple grounds. Visit quietly so as not to disturb worshippers.

Tips

Tips

  • •The four spots are spread out from Hokkaido to Kyoto. Rather than trying to see them all at once, it is easier to plan separate trips by region.
  • •Hino-juku Honjin and Hino-juku Koryukan are close to each other, so you can walk to both from Hino Station.
  • •In Kyoto, the Yagi Residence and Mibu-dera Temple stand next to each other, so it is best to visit them together.
