Ryukyu Kaiensai Fireworks Festival
Overview
Japan's earliest big summer fireworks show, held every April on a beach in Ginowan. It is a music fireworks event with about 10,000 shells synchronized to music, and viewing is ticketed. You can get there from Naha on the official shuttle bus.
A dedicated firing computer controls the launch positions and timing, with fireworks set to songs by popular artists, classical music, and Okinawan and Asian music. Signature features include fireworks designed by Junko Koshino since 2010 and a show depicting Katsushika Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa with light and sound.
