Overview

A seaside hot spring town about 5 minutes by bus from Hakodate Airport and about 30 minutes by streetcar from Hakodate Station. It is a convenient base for sightseeing in Hakodate, and there is also a free footbath.

The hot spring is said to have begun in 1653, when the lord of the Matsumae Domain was cured of an illness through hot spring therapy. There are 22 sources with a flow of more than 7,000 tons a day, at high temperatures averaging around 65 degrees. There is a free footbath in front of the streetcar stop, and Yukura Shrine and the Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden are within walking distance.
