Overview

Overview

Tokyo's signature summer fireworks festival, which traces its origins to the Ryogoku river-opening celebrations of the Edo period. A total of about 20,000 shells are launched from two venues on the Sumida River around Asakusa. You can easily take the subway from central Tokyo to see the fireworks light up the shitamachi sky near Tokyo Skytree.

Fireworks are launched from two sites: Venue 1 (Sakura Bridge to Kototoi Bridge) and Venue 2 (Komagata Bridge to Umaya Bridge). Competition shells are also launched at Venue 1. In 2026, about 9,350 shells were launched at Venue 1 (including 200 competition shells) and about 10,650 at Venue 2.
