Overview

Overview

A fireworks competition held since 1925 in which pyrotechnicians from across Japan compete with their skills. It takes place every year on the first Saturday of November on the riverbed of the Sakura River in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki. Competition fireworks such as star mines and No. 10 shells are launched one after another into the clear autumn night sky.

Fireworks makers from across Japan compete in three categories: star mines, No. 10 shells and creative fireworks. The wide star mine Tsuchiura Hanabi Zukushi, provided by the organizers, is another highlight.
