Overview

Overview

A hot spring area close to the Tokyo metropolitan area, about 85 minutes from Shinjuku on the Romancecar. About 20 spring types well up across the 17 hot spring areas known as the Hakone Seventeen Springs. Day-use hot springs are concentrated in Hakone-Yumoto, the gateway to Hakone.

The 17 hot spring areas, including Yumoto, Tonosawa, Miyanoshita, Gora, Sengokuhara and Lake Ashi, are scattered through the mountains, with about 25,000 tons of water welling up each day. Around Hakone-Yumoto Station there are day-use facilities and a town-run public bath, so you can stop by before or after sightseeing. A classic way to get around is to combine the Hakone Tozan Train, the ropeway and the pirate ship with the Hakone Freepass.
