Overview

Overview

A group of five hot spring areas (Hirayu, Fukuji, Shin-Hirayu, Tochio and Shinhotaka) at the foot of the Northern Alps. It is said to have one of the largest numbers of open-air baths in Japan. About 1 hour from Takayama by local bus, it is an easy area to visit together with the Shinhotaka Ropeway.

Hirayu no Mori in Hirayu is a day-use facility with 16 open-air baths for men and women combined. There are also simple open-air baths you can enter for a small donation (about ¥300), such as Kojin no Yu in Tochio and Hirayu no Yu in Hirayu. The Shinhotaka Ropeway takes you up to an altitude of 2,156m, with 360-degree views of the Northern Alps.
