Takayama, Sanmachi, Miyagawa Morning Market, Okuhida Onsen
Hida's little Kyoto, known for Sanmachi with its Edo-period streets and the Miyagawa Morning Market. Because it sits in a basin surrounded by mountains, temperatures swing widely: winter mornings drop to around -5°C and snow settles. Okuhida Onsen, at the foot of the Northern Alps, lies even deeper in the mountains.
