A mountain town dotted with places from Japanese mythology, including Takachiho Gorge, lined with cliffs of columnar basalt, and Manai Falls, Takachiho Shrine and Amanoiwato Shrine. Best Time to Visit Takachiho
For Yokagura
From mid-November to early February each year, sacred kagura dances are performed through the night in about 20 communities around town. Outside this season, you can still see Takachiho Kagura, which features four signature dances.
For autumn leaves
The autumn colors at Takachiho Gorge peak from early to late November. Mornings and evenings in the gorge are chilly, so don't forget a jacket.

Jun–AugIn southern Kyushu, the rainy season usually runs from around May 30 to around July 15. June and July rainfall tops 400 mm. August highs are around 31°C, with mornings around 21°C, a bit more comfortable than the lowlands.
