Hakodate Port Festival
Hokkaido ・ Hakodate
Usually August 1–5 (fireworks on the first day, parades on the 2nd and 3rd)
A landscape garden created in the Meiji era as the villa of the Iwafune family, wealthy merchants, and the only garden in Hokkaido designated a national cultural property (Place of Scenic Beauty). With about 150 kinds of garden trees, mainly maples, changing color, it is one of Hakodate’s best-known spots for autumn leaves.
The leaves start to change around mid-October, and in recent years the peak has been late October to early November (10/31 in 2023, 11/2 in 2024, 10/31 in 2025)
🍁 These spots are in their typical peak period. Actual colors shift with each year’s temperatures, so check the official foliage updates too.
Hakodate MOMI-G Festa 2026 runs 10/16 (Fri)–11/8 (Sun)
Peak times are typical guides. The timing shifts with each year’s temperatures.
Highlights include the combination of Japanese atmosphere and autumn leaves: an avenue of about 100 m through large maple trees, a wooden bridge over a stream, and a garden pavilion built in the style of a tea house. There is also an evening illumination during the festival.
