The YOSAKOI Soran Festival in early June and the Hokkaido Shrine Festival in mid-June liven up the city
Unlike Honshu, Hokkaido has no real rainy season, so June brings fresh early-summer weather. Sapporo's high is a comfortable 21.8°C, and fresh greenery is everywhere. Sunrise is before 4 am — the earliest of the year — and it stays light until after 7 pm, so you get long days. Mornings and evenings drop to around 13°C, though, and the eastern coast is prone to fog and can be chilly.
Temperature, precipitation, snow and sunshine are climate normals (1991-2020). Sunset is for June 15.

Hokkaido doesn't have a clear rainy season like Honshu. Even when Honshu is in its June rainy season, Hokkaido has plenty of sunny days, making it a great time to travel.
The sun rises before 4 am. If your hotel curtains are thin, you may wake up early, so an eye mask is handy.
Even when daytime passes 20°C, mornings and evenings drop to the low teens (°C). Carry a light layer.
In Shiretoko and elsewhere, you may encounter brown bears or Ezo red foxes. Don't feed or approach them, and join a tour for mountain walks.
Dance teams holding naruko clappers parade through Odori Park and beyond — Hokkaido's signature early-summer festival.

A fireworks display launched every night for about half the year, from spring to autumn, at Toyako Onsen. A boat loaded with fireworks moves about 2 km across the lake while launching around 450 shells, so you can enjoy the fireworks reflected on the water from anywhere in the hot spring town. 2026 marks its 45th year.
