Overview

Overview

Two Azuma-higan cherry trees said to be more than 500 years old, standing on the shore of the Miboro Dam lake. They were transplanted from temples that were to be submerged by the dam’s construction, and are known for “the great transplanting of giant cherry trees, unprecedented in the world history of tree planting.” Because they are high in the mountains, they reach full bloom around Golden Week.

Highlights

Highlights

Two giant cherry trees, designated Natural Monuments of Gifu Prefecture, spread their branches against the lake. They originally stood on the grounds of Shorenji and Korinji temples, now beneath the lake, and their story is passed down together with the history of the transplanting. They are also selected as one of the 33 Cherry Blossom Spots of Hida and Mino.
