Tips

Tips

  • •Kamikochi and Shinhotaka are at high altitude and get cold in the mornings and evenings, so bring warm layers even in foliage season.
  • •This route involves a lot of travel, so check the guide to the Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass to see which sections it covers.
  • •Private cars are restricted in Kamikochi all year, so buses are the standard way in. Sending large luggage ahead to your inn or leaving it at a station makes walking easier.
