Cherry trees, mainly Somei-yoshino planted since 1889 (Meiji 22), color the park. During hanami season, food stalls line the paths and lights are turned on at night for a lively atmosphere. With the “Kodomo no Kuni” play area, animal facilities and the Hakodate City Museum, it is also popular with families.
